Tyrone Edmond
Once upon a time in a land far far away lived a child who would face much adversity. After losing a parent, this child was taken in by a family nearby. The youngster worked hard and diligently and is finally living the fairy tale life due to a fortunate meeting with a “fairy
god mother”. If you were thinking of Cinderella you wouldn’t be completely off. The only difference is this “Cinderella” grew up to be a man named Tyrone Edmond. Born Enoch Edmond in Cap Haitien, Haiti, Tyrone lost his mother at the tender age of 9. He was taken in and
adopted by loving missionaries he has come to know as his parents, the Ven Devorts. |
The Ven Devorts moved from Haiti to Florida where they’re beloved son would come to meet an instrumental person that would change his life as he knew it. At 15, he met Tyrone, a fellow classmate in high school, and immediately became close friends. Tyrone became the big brother
that he never had. Shortly after disaster struck. The young man that Tyrone has come to know and love, his best friend died of AIDS. As a tribute to him, Enoch then changed his name to Tyrone. Tyrone later moved to New York in pursuit of an acting career. He lived with his uncle
and called Brooklyn home for some time. During his many trips on the “Q” train he was spotted by a modeling agent and was signed almost immediately. He was booked for many shoots after that; Ralph Lauren, Donna Karen, The Gap to name a few. Tyrone has also catwalked in Europe
where he was dubbed “ The Haitian Sensation”.
 |
It was on the photo shoot for Gear magazine that he met fellow Brooklynite Wyclef Jean. He has been in Essence, Mademoiselle and other major magazines. But there is more to this 24-year old breakout supermodel than meets the eye. Tyrone has founded One Heart Foundation; an
organization designed to aid impoverished children stricken with AIDS, hunger, poverty, and disease through education. He has placed not only his faith in the project but also his money. He as well as other corporate sponsors (not excluding Haitian entertainer Wyclef Jean) has
helped fund the project that officially launched early this year. |
Empathetic to the victims of the September 11th catastrophe, Tyrone had a calendar signing at the HMV on October 27th 2001 (first male model to do a signing release at HMV records store) whose proceeds went to the affected families. Mr. Edmond has traveled and accomplished
great feats in his 24 years that most don’t given two lifetimes. In lieu of a cocky attitude, we see humility…instead of conceit, we are introduced to graciousness. Contrary to other artists and entertainers simply living up the life of luxury, Tyrone uses his celebrity
towards the greater good.
Does he live happily ever after?
I don’t know But what I do know is that Tyrone Edmond is destined for great things.
